3 Days in Cork
General Information About Cork
There is Cork city and Cork region. Most people will come and do a bit of a road trip throughout Cork/Kerry etc and that is definitely the way to do it! We lived for 1 week in Cork City but were also working therefore didn’t get too much of a roadtrip in.
You should save 1-2 days for Cork city itself and the rest of the time do a roadtrip. We are not offering that suggestion because we did not do it but here are two sample days we can offer.
Day 1: Exploring the city of Cork
We really enjoyed Cork City. it is not too big, very cute and you can walk everywhere. Bonus, the people could not be nicer!
This day will be a lot of walking around the City and exploring with just a few tips on where to stop during the day. The rest if up to you to really get lost.
We’d suggest this trip start in the morning so you end up in the city center in the afternoon.
Head out around 9AM and go to Blackrock Castle. We’d recommend walking for exercise, but feel free to take a taxi there. (it will be about a 1Hr walk from the city center)
Now start walking back towards the city center and you’ll do a loop
Stop for a tea and a little late morning snack at MYO Cafe
Now you are on your way again
Cork City Gaol: you can buy tickets here
Fitzgerald Park: walk through the park, relax enjoy.
Now you are back in Cork City and it is time for a well deserved lunch and a pint!
The English Market and you can eat on their top floor restaurant: The Farmgate Cafe
After lunch, buy some stuff at the English Market and head back to rest a little bit and make a reservation at one of these restaurants for dinner
In the late afernoon, go to one of these pubs for a before dinner drink. Walk around the town at night (it is beautiful!) and then head out to dinner!
day 2: Exploring Southern Cork
We were so lucky and have friends who are from Cork and live in Cork and one day they took us on an epic adventure of southern Cork in their car. Here is our itinerary and we recommend doing it exactly. It will take you about 1/2 day based on how long you want to spend in each area etc.
We left Cork City around 2PM and came back around 7.30PM ish.
Have lunch in Cork City, take your car and start the adventure!
Recommended: for those not driving, bring a few beers to have in some of the stops and maybe a bag of chips to snack on later.
The first Stop is :The old head cliffs . Park your car on the side of the road when you get there and walk down the side of the cliffs to get closer to the water. These were some of the most beautiful cliffs we’ve ever seen. We sat down here, took pictures and simple took in the insane beauty that we were seeing!
Our second stop was at The Old Fort which is a 17th century fort with ruins. Great views and fun to walk around the grounds. Also if you are feeling the need for some caffeine or snack there is a little cafe at the Old Fort.
Next stop was Nohoval Cove. This was yet another spectacular spot of nature. You can climb all around, go towards the cave on the left and climb in and then “hike” all the way to the top and see the cove in all it’s beauty. This is another spot having a beer and chilling will be nice.
Our last stop was a pub called: The Harbour Bar. Grab a pint and head outside to drink it while taking in the view. A very local joint and super fun crowd. Take your time and enjoy the locals.
We did go back home after a few drinks here to have dinner but also so that the driver could drink too! But it looked like there were quite a few little spots to eat right next to the harbour bar.
