Costa Rica

Pura Vida” simply translated, it means “simple life” or “pure life”, but here in Costa Rica, it is more than just a saying—it is a way of life.

Things to Know About Costa Rica

Tips:

  • Electrical Outlets:  Type A (Same as the USA)

  • Tipping: Tipping is not needed

  • Getting Around:

    • You should rent a car when you are in Costa Rica. We recommend a 4X4 due to the state of the roads there.

    • Look for little local airports, there are a few tiny planes which leave from San Jose to make your trip a bit quicker.

  • Cost of living: Costa Rica is expensive. We were quite shocked at how expensive actually. Also prices are sometimes in USD which was even more suprising.

  • Water: Some places it is safe to drink, but in rural areas you can’t be sure. We’d recommend always asking your hotel if you can.

  • Currency: The Costa Rica Colón. However, USD are readily accepted (again annoying how expensive things can be)
